Subnet mindshare app, TAO Times streams are back, & new Bittensor events in Austin

TAO Times #29

Welcome to the 29th edition of the TAO Times, where we share weekly updates on all of the most important events occurring within the Bittensor ecosystem!

For validators, subnet owners, miners, token holders, & community members.

Here is what happened during the week of March 2nd ↘️

Subnet Leaderboard

Since last week’s snapshot, SN4 (Targon) has moved to the #1 spot, slightly nudging out SN64(Chutes). SN52(Dojo) has entered the Top 10, replacing SN1(Apex). The other players have shuffled around the leaderboard a bit, but have more or less stayed within the same positions as they are this week.

Highlights of the Week

⚡️ YZi Labs has invested in Tensorplex Labs to help accelerate SN52(Dojo) and Backprop Finance. YZi Labs is CZ’s (former Binance CEO) new family office, which focuses on “ventures with strong fundamentals within Web3, AI, and biotech.”

⚡️ The OTF has reduced the Network Lock Reduction Interval from 4 days to 2 days, accelerating the rate at which new subnet registration costs decrease. Since the dTAO upgrade, 9 new subnets have been registered.

⚡️ Lazz and the team at Shogun released SwordScan, a subnet mindshare tracking tool. It’s excellent and you should give it a try if you are trying to identify patterns between dTAO token price performance and their corresponding mindshare.

⚡️ Metanova Labs announced the launch of NOVA on SN68, a decentralized drug discovery engine aiming to transform virtual drug screening into a continuous AI-driven competition. Miners optimize AI models to rapidly identify high-affinity, synthesizable compounds, earning rewards for breakthroughs, submission scoring, and TAO staking.

⚡️ On a recent TAO Times stream, Sami Kassab, Ken Miyachi, Xavier Lyu, 563defi, and I got together to discuss our ETH Denver takeaways:

  • Shift to Fundamentals – Investors are moving away from speculative hype, focusing on Deepin and Crypto-AI, with growing institutional interest in Bittensor post-DTAO.

  • Subnet Builders vs. Traditional Crypto – Bittensor subnets operate like real businesses, emphasizing product development, revenue generation, and partnerships rather than speculative fundraising.

  • Product Adoption & Distribution Challenges – Live demos at ETH Denver showcased real utility, but marketing and distribution remain a major hurdle for subnet growth and mainstream adoption.

  • Evolving Tokenomics & Fundraising Models – Subnet teams are exploring buybacks, emissions control, OTC deals, and EVM-based fundraising strategies to sustain operations and attract investors.

  • Future Growth & Institutional Integration – Bittensor is diverging from general crypto trends, with increased demand for structured emissions, real-world adoption, and institutional data integrations like Artemis.
